If everything goes to plan I would want to sell the company in 5-7 years, however I would not want to sell all of the company. I would want to keep between 10-20% of the company just so that I have a extra source of income!
2) Why have you selected this particular exit strategy?
I have picked this strategy because I can not see myself running a peanut butter and jelly shop for the rest of my life. I would want to do something that I am more interested in!
3) How do you think your exit strategy has influenced the other decisions you've made in your concept? For instance, has it influenced how you have identified an opportunity? Has it influenced your growth intentions or how you plan to acquire and use resources?
I don't think that mt decision to sell the company influences my decisions for the company in anyway. I think that I would do anything that benefits the company so that I have the ability to keep the company if I do end up changing my mind. I like to leave all options open.
Hey Dillion, I think you have a really good idea about keeping 10-20% of your company as an extra source of income. It is also like you aren't really completely giving up your company, you still technically own a part of it. I chose to keep my business for my "exit strategy" unless someone offers me a bunch of money for it. Check out my exit strategy at http://daviddo-uf.blogspot.com/2016/04/my-exit-strategy.html
ReplyDeleteDillon,
ReplyDeleteYour idea of selling 80-90% of the company is something I had not previously considered. It would be awesome to have extra income while I move on to the next phase of my life. Like you, I plan to sell my company in about 4-5 years. Check out my blog post here: http://jakeryanentrepreneur.blogspot.com/2016/04/my-exit-strategy.html
I think that it is good that you want to keep shares in the company. That way if anything does happen you do have a second income. I also plan on getting out of my business in 5-7 years. You could also keep it long enough to give to your kids when they are older but have someone run it in the mean time.
